Casa Aguilera Trading Company

St. Johnsbury, VT

"After years of pining for real-deal Mexican food in Vermont, I'd finally found what I'd been looking for.
- Hannah Palmer Egan, reviewing Casa Aguilera in the Seven Days newspaper.

There is a reason that guests of Casa Aguilera drive from miles away to visit this wonderful restaurant in the heart of downtown St. Johnsbury. In a time where Mexican food is defined by large restaurant chains, the food and atmosphere that you experience at Casa Aguilera feels like you are at a small cantina in Mexico, eating a tremendous meal with a ice-cold Corona by your side.

The building blocks of Casa Aguilera's cuisine are simple, provide food that is genuine to Mexican cooking. Beans are slow cooked in traditional Mexican clay pots for five hours. Rice is seasoned traditionally, with tomatoes, garlic and onions. The restaurant is proud of the fact that it buys as much local produce and meats as possible, wanting its menu items to be as fresh as possible. And despite the fact that Vermont is known for its cheese, it would not be authentic Mexican fare if Casa Aguilera did not use Queso Menonita, Queso Blanco and Queso Fresco in its many scrumptious and healthy dishes.

All of the food is prepared fresh daily, with complimentary chips served warm, paired with salsas and sauces made from recipes that have passed down in the family for generations.

Most lunch items come with complimentary beans and rice. When a choice of meat is offered, the options are grilled chicken, carne asada (steak) or carnitas (pork)

Featured Items: Taquitos, Soft Tacos, Hard Tacos, Chimichanga, Burrito Bowl, Quesadilla, Empanada, Nachos and Burritos.

Most of the dinner meals come with complimentary beans and rice, a choice of salads and tortillas of your choosing (flour or corn).

Featured Items: Enchiladas, Tamales, Taquitos & Floutas, Empanadas, Casa Dinner Burrito, Chimichanga and Taco Plate.

Featured Items: Churros, Churro Sundae, Tres Leches Cake, Fruit Empanadas and Mexican Mousse Cake.

Bottled Mexican Coke & Sprite, bottled Jarritos Mexican sodas in lime/mandarin orange/fruit punch/pineapple & tamarind, Agua de Jamaica (iced organic hibiscus tea lightly sweetened with honey), Horchata (sweetened rice milk), Agua Fresca (fruit infused drinks made daily on site) and an assortment of Mexican and Vermont craft beers and wine.

  • Manny Aguilera was born in Texas and lived in California most of his life. His mother, the inspiration for his restaurant, was born in Zacatecas, Mexico, so he really does know authentic Mexican cuisine.

"My mother was a wonderful cook. The reason I do this is to recreate my childhood. When I entered my house, I would be embraced by all these aromas coming from the kitchen, where meals were prepared with such love and compassion. That is what we strive to do at Casa Aguilera, make everyone who comes into our restaurant feel like they are family."
