On Jan. 1, 2005, the NEK Chamber will kick off its Employee Assistance Program with Casey & Associates of St. Johnsbury to become the chamber’s exclusive provider of employee assistance and related workplace services.
Casey & Associates already provides employee assistance services to a number of NEK Chamber member businesses and their services are strongly endorsed by some of the area’s largest employers.
This agreement allows member businesses of any size to purchase a comprehensive employee assistance program benefit.
Employee assistance programs (EAPs), while a common benefit among large employers, have only in recent years been recognized as an effective cost saving tool for small and medium-size businesses.
EAPs help companies and their employees effectively address personal concerns before those concerns begin to impact job performance. Cost savings of $5 - $7 for every dollar invested in EAP programs have been clearly documented in several independent studies.
Dennis Casey established Casey & Associates in 1994 and has more than 20 years of experience in implementing and managing EAP programs. He explains the concept of employee assistance programs this way;
“When an employer invests a substantial amount of money in a new piece of equipment or technology, they routinely purchase a maintenance agreement to protect that investment. Employee assistance programs are maintenance agreements for employees. Given the significant investment employers make in compensation and training, it is critical to have resources available to help employees address personal and family concerns as they arise.”
Casey adds that the two biggest reasons employees do not seek help for personal concerns is that they do not know where to go and they believe addressing the problem will be too expensive.
Employers who offer an EAP benefit can be assured that that their employees have resources immediately available as problems arise. This greatly reduces the potential that personal concerns will negatively impact on employee productivity, health and safety.
Maintaining employee health and reducing the impact of personal problems in the workplace is where employers will see a return on the EAP investment.
Casey & Associates has designed a comprehensive EAP benefit package exclusively for NEK Chamber members. The package offers the traditional counseling and consulting resources for supervisors, employees and eligible family members and includes the powerful LifeHub health and wellness website.
Employees and their families can use LifeHub to explore a wide range of personal issues such as stress management, exercise, depression, family relationships, parenting and addiction issues. This comprehensive package is available for less than $30 per employee/yr.
