Leadership NEK

Leadership NEK

Equipping leaders. Strengthening communities. Building the future of the Northeast Kingdom.

Leadership NEK is a regional leadership development program designed to empower a diverse group of emerging and established leaders across Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans counties. Rooted in the belief that strong communities need strong, connected leadership, the program helps participants deepen their understanding of the region, expand their networks, and grow their capacity to lead positive change.

Why Leadership NEK?

Our region is facing complex challenges—from workforce shortages and housing constraints to shifting demographics and generational transitions in leadership. Leadership NEK responds by cultivating leaders who are collaborative, informed, and equipped to shape the NEK’s future.

Program Highlights:

  • Cohort-Based Learning – A 10-month long experience combining regional site visits, expert panels, skill-building workshops, and peer dialogue.
  • Place-Based Curriculum – Day-long, monthly sessions explore critical regional issues including economic development, education, housing, health care, local government, and more.
  • Mentorship – Participants will be matched with mentors who represent a wide range of fields: business, nonprofits, education, government, health care, trades, and civic life.
  • Community Impact – Each cohort works on a capstone project that responds to real needs and opportunities within the NEK.
