"I got into this because I wanted to care for people..."

"...not to do paperwork," said Dr. Umair Malik at Wednesday morning's Coffee & Connections.

Dr. Malik came to share about Blue Spruce Health, sponsors of this month's event. Blue Spruce Health offers Direct Primary Care to patients throughout Vermont, with offices in Newport, Saint Johnsbury, and Williston.

By charging a monthly or annual membership in place of charging to one's insurance, Dr. Malik and his team are able to offer what they describe as a more "personal, affordable, and convenient way to take care of your well-being..."

Through the Direct Primary Care model, Blue Spruce Health seeks to overcome barriers in traditional medicine brought on by excessive administrative burden—a pain felt all too often by local business owners and community members alike.

"This model isn't novel," he said, "it's just uncommon in the Northeast."

By daring to be uncommon, Dr. Malik and his team are working towards solutions to problems that have rippling effects on every aspect of life in the Northeast Kingdom. So whether you're an employer, employee, self-employed, or otherwise, there's a lot to be learned about what Blue Spruce Health has to offer, and how they're offering it.

Coffee & Connections is one of our favorite recurring events. Join us the first Wednesday of each month in Lyndon, and now, the third Wednesday of each month in Newport (in partnership with VT's North Country Chamber of Commerce).
