"We learn by having fun..."

"...we are there for each other ," said Pamela Taylor, of Pamela Taylor Music, host of Wednesday morning's Coffee & Connections.

For music instructor Pamela Taylor, of Newport, creativity is the name of the game. Like so many small business owners, Pamela had to adapt quickly to changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic of the early 2020s. Pamela faced the need for change head on by embracing new technologies and outfitting her music studio with a multi-camera setup, allowing her to continue giving lessons remotely while still providing the authentic experience needed to teach her craft.

Since then, Pamela has been able to continue to use this setup to share her expertise with students both locally and abroad.

"Some students take both online and in-person lessons, depending on their schedule. For instance, if you can’t make it to class due to travel, weather, or mild illness, you can still take part online. When you sign on, you are able to see the class, and they are able to see you. It’s the next best thing to being there!"

Through this creative approach, Pamela was able to sustain her business through one of the most uncertain times for any business owner. Even more importantly, by choosing to maintain this flexible model, she is able to enrich the lives of even more students.

When asked to reflect on life in the Northeast Kingdom, she had this to say:

"The community is very warm and supportive... we're all just living our lives-- our very best lives."

Wednesday's Coffee Hour was no exception to that sentiment. With mugs full of coffee, we gathered as business owners, as community members, and as neighbors to understand, learn from, and support one another.

Thank you to Vermont's North Country Chamber of Commerce for partnering on the Newport edition of Coffee & Connections, and thank you to Pamela Taylor Music for sponsoring this month's conversation.

Up next: we'll be in Lyndon Wednesday, September 2nd and back in Newport Wednesday, September 16th. Keep an eye on our calendar for upcoming details.
